Sony A77 High ISO Noise Reduction

The Sony A77 offers three high ISO noise reduction settings: Low, Normal and High, with Normal being the default. The A77 user manual does not say at what ISO noise reduction kicks in, so we've included crops starting from ISO 50.

See for yourself how the three levels of noise reduction works under daylight-balanced lighting. Click on any of the crops below to see the corresponding full-sized image.

It's a little difficult to tell from these crops, but it appears that the A77 applies "High ISO Noise Reduction" at all ISOs, as there are subtle differences in fine detail between the settings already at ISO 50. It starts to become more obvious at ISO 800 and above, and as you can see, plenty of noise reduction is still being applied at the lowest setting.
