Orange County Convention Center, FL

Welcome to Imaging Resource’s Live PMA 2006 Tradeshow Coverage. PMA is the camera industry's most important show of the year, and we're covering it as thoroughly as possible. Not only are we posting news and booth reports straight from the show floor, you'll find extensive video coverage and a daily report from Mike Pasini, our roving reporter. Come back often for daily reports, news, photos, and video of all the latest photography equipment.

If you have any problems viewing the videos, you may want to upgrade to the latest version of Macromedia Flash.

Video Coverage (most recent first)

Video: New Printers at PMA 2006

While PMA 2006 was a slower-than-usual show for digital camera innovations, there have been some great strides in printer technology. Dave interviews Dr. Nils Miller of Hewlett-Packard, Justin Joseph, and Ed LaManna of Canon USA to see what's new in the world of printers.

Note: The video can take a long time to load if you don't have broadband and a wired or high speed WiFi connection. (802.11b seems to produce very long load times.)

Video: Sony at PMA 2006

Dave interviews Amy Koppmann of Sony Electronics, showing us the latest cameras in Sony's product lines.

Video: a tour of Kodak imaging sensors

Dave interviews Michael DeLuca of Eastman Kodak Company, who gives us a good rundown of the types of sensors Kodak is producing for camera manufacturers. Michael also explains why you probably won't ever see thirty-nine megapixels on a consumer digital camera chip.

Video: DxO Labs Digital Optics Technology

Dave interviews Nicolas Touchard, the Vice President of DxO labs, about their new DxO Digital Optics Technology. This technology promises to dramatically improve the performance of your cameraphone in lowlight situations, by using specialized software to improve the light-gathering ability of the aperture. As well, they are developing a digital focusing technology that will allow the camera to focus - without the use of any moving parts!

Video: Nikon at PMA2006

Shawn interviews Steven Heiner of Nikon, who gives an overview of Nikon's new cameras on display at PMA. Featured are the "Life" series of cameras - the Coolpix L2, L3 and L4, the "Style" series of cameras - the Coolpix S5 and S6, and the "Performance" series of cameras - the Coolpix P3 and P4. As well, Steve displays Nikon's D200 and newest SLR macro lens, the 105mm Micro-Nikkor AF-S VR2.

Video: Calibrate Your Color With ColorVision

Color calibration of your monitor and printer is an incredibly important topic that you'll be hearing a lot more about from us over the next year. Even brand-new monitors straight from the box can have wildly varying color characteristics. (So just having a new monitor by no means excuses you from the need to calibrate it.) Ross Hendricks from ColorVision by DataColor takes us through their product line and explains a few of the ins and outs of color calibration along the way.

Video: Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1

The four-thirds digital SLR system got a lot stronger today. At a joint Olympus- Panasonic press conference this morning, Panasonic introduced the Lumix DMC-L1, incorporating an 18-50mm f/2.8-3.5 image-stabilized Leica zoom lens. We chatted with Suguru Takamatsu of Panasonic's Optical Group (Japan) to get a few more details.

Video: Sneak Peek to PMA 2006

Dave Etchells and Shawn Barnett take a tour of PMA2006's sneak peak luncheon, an advance screening of some of the latest products to emerge this year. Featured are the PhotoStudio in a box, the Lowepro Compu Daypack, the MonsterPod adhesive tripod, the Soft Light Reflector and Internet Photo Classes, and a look behind new Face Recognition Technology.

Video: Kodak V-570 dual-lens/dual-CCD camera

The new Kodak V570 camera is a great example of out-of-the-box thinking. It's the first two-lens, two-sensor consumer digital camera. (First introduced at CES '06 in January.) The net result is a camera that has both super wide and normal zoom ranges, packaged in a very compact case. Dave takes you through the camera's workings, including its amazingly effective in-camera panorama stitching.

Video: Olympus E-330 SLR with a live preview

As the only current removable-lens digital SLR with a live LCD preview, the Olympus EVOLT E-330 is sure to draw some attention. Many users moving up from all-in-one digital cameras to digital SLRs miss the ability to frame their shots on an LCD viewfinder. The new Olympus E330 solves that problem with some tricky optics and a second, dedicated viewfinder CCD. We've had hands-on with a prototype, and Editor Shawn Barnett and Publisher Dave Etchells recorded a video walkthrough of the camera to explain some of its operation. Shawn also wrote a User Report, after spending a couple of days shooting with the new camera, describing some of its strengths and foibles. The sample we saw was only a prototype, so we can't share any images from it with you, but we think you'll find this an intriguing new wrinkle in the d-SLR field.
