PRESS RELEASE: Photographing London With The School Of Life

The School of Life has created this unusual holiday, for amatuer and professional photographers alike, to travel the city with two acclaimed street photographers, Matt  Stuart and Stephen McLaren to discover the potential for innovative photography throughout the capital.

Holidaymakers will be joined by Matt Stuart and Stephen McLaren as they intertwine stories, anecdotes and slide shows to exhibit what can be learned from both the city’s iconic photographers and those who have pursued the more unconventional appeal of the capital. They’ll visit the spots where they have captured their own best shots and will offer indespensable advice on slipping into a crowd, working with members of the  public, editing your work, and most importantly for those budding photographers, getting it shown publicly.

From Soho to Brick Lane, guests will travel down the roads and streets that have been host to some of the greatest photographs ever taken in London, and will explore the dynamics and contradictions of street life. The tour will stroll through the city observing the momentary interactions between people, subjects and images and will discuss the visual, sociological and historical perspectives that can alter photography and the way we see the world.

Photographing London, on 9 and 10 May 2009 will give passionate photographers and enthusiasts a chance to view London in a wholly different manner, and will notify even the most seasoned Londoner to the unexpected beauty of familiar places and the narratives of everyday life.
