Aiming to take on the Sony RX10 in the big-sensor, long-zoom category, the recently announced Panasonic FZ1000 turns up the heat not only with a significantly longer 16x zoom range, but a noticeably-faster 12 frames-per-second burst capture rate and 4K video support. The FZ1000 has been through our test lab, and you've seen how it stacks up to the RX10 in these lab conditions, but how does the Panasonic FZ1000 do in the real world?
Both Labmaster Luke Smith and our senior lens technician Rob Murray took the FZ1000 out for a spin. Luke was first up, photographing a kayaking and canoeing race and putting that long zoom focal lengths to the test. Then it's over to Rob and his photographer friend Mike to test the camera further trying our the 12fps burst and the 4K video. Initial impressions are excellent, with 4K video in particular displaying an impressive level of detail.
Below you can see a few resized sample images as well as a couple 4K sample videos (note: YouTube processes so if you want to download the unprocessed videos, click on the download links below the videos).
