Fstoppers cofounder and photographer Patrick Hall is a huge fan of his 70-200mm lens. In the video below, he uses a Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 SP lens, which just came out earlier this year.
Hall is a big fan of the 70-200mm lens due to its versatility and that it allows you to control your background via zoom. While you may need to back up to take full advantage of the lens, especially if you're used to shooting with a 35mm or 50mm lens, a 70-200mm lens is a portrait powerhouse. By zooming in to a longer focal length, you can create even more background blur, all else equal, and remove distracting elements from the background.
In the video below, Hall shows us how to utilize the 70-200mm f/2.8 lens to control your background and create more pleasing portraits.
