  • Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L II USM

10 out of 10 points and recommended
Sharp from wide open, Small, Lightweight, Adapts well to Mirrorless, Price
    Weather sealing

I bought this lens after trying a few 70-200mm lenses and finding I used those at 200mm 95% of the time. Boy was I blown away at the image quality vs price. So sharp and lovely rendering right from wide open. I use it for Candid Street, Outdoor Portraits and most importantly bird photography when lucky enough to be close to the subjects. The image quality is better than any of the 70-200 lenses I've tired (as you'd expect being a prime lens) and the size and weight is just a dream vs those zooms. Also nice that it's not white and so doesn't stand out "Hey look, he must be a good photographer, he has white lenses ;-)"

I use the lens exclusively on my Sony A7iii and adapt with the Sigma MC-11 adapter. Focus is fast and accurate though you can only use the middle 3rd of the sensor ish for the focus points. In this adapted situation the continuous AF for fast moving subjects is not ideal, but I cannot mark the lens down for that as I am using on system it was never designed for.

So if like me, you use your big 'ol 70-200 mainly at the long end, do your self a favour, save some money and weight and switch to this stunner of a lens.

(the price I paid was 350 GBP for a mint used copy.)
