PRESS RELEASE: Digital Now and Applied Science Fiction Announce Agreement to Integrate Digital ICE Technology into Digital Now's Lumina Range of Scanners

COLOGNE, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 24, 2002--Digital Now, Inc. (DN(TM)) and Applied Science Fiction (ASF(TM)) announce today an agreement to integrate ASF's Digital ICE technology into DN's Lumina(TM) range of high volume and high-resolution scanners.

DN is a developer of industry-leading digital imaging technology for the photo processing industry, and Applied Science Fiction is the creator of the award-winning Digital ICE and Digital ICE3(TM) technologies, the leader of automatic photo restoration applications and the inventor of the cutting-edge Digital PIC(TM) dry film processing system.

"The availability of our Digital ICE technology in Digital Now's Lumina range of scanners further strengthens our position as the leader in automatic image correction solutions," said Dan Sullivan, president and CEO of Applied Science Fiction. "The outstanding Lumina range scanners from Digital Now are further differentiated with Digital ICE integration."

"Our company continues to focus on delivering technology that facilitates the photo processing image capture, enhancement and work flow," said Gary Mueller, chief executive officer of Digital Now. About Digital Now, Inc.

Digital Now is recognized as a leading developer of digital imaging technology for the photo processing industry. Its early vision of delivering a CD or diskette with every roll of film has evolved today to a commitment to an innovative range of products and services that expand the power and reach of the photo processor.

Digital Now's products can be grouped into two major categories: the Lumina range of high speed, high resolution digital scanning equipment and the Digital Photo Factory(TM) (DPF(TM)) software, the workflow and image management software suite.

The DPF software workflow system in combination with the Lumina range of film scanners enables photofinishers to convert analog film into digital format and provide multiple digital products to consumers. The Digital Now solution comprising its integrated equipment, firmware and software suite provides the ultimate scaleable high throughput, in-line digital imaging system, driven by a Microsoft® Windows® server. This technology greatly expands the opportunity for the simultaneous production of various forms of output, thereby resulting in a more efficient and highly productive workflow.

The Company's primary markets include photo processing equipment manufacturers, large photo processing labs, mid-sized labs, minilabs and photo-related vertical markets. The Company has several large customers including CeWe, Fuji, Kodak (Qualex), Spector, Photoworks and Nihon Jumbo. For more information about Digital Now, visit www.digitalnow.com.

About Applied Science Fiction

Applied Science Fiction develops proprietary technologies for the imaging industry that link traditional photography with the digital age. ASF licenses its branded technologies through Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) that provide products for the professional and consumer imaging markets. Additionally, ASF directly distributes Adobe® Photoshop® compatible plug-ins for automatic image correction and enhancement.

Applied Science Fiction's Digital ICE technology automatically removes surface defects such as dust and scratches from a scanned image. The award-winning Digital ICE differentiates itself from software-only solutions because it does not soften, blur or otherwise alter any underlying details or composition of the original image. Instead, ASF's patented Digital ICE technology works from within the scanner during the scanning process to provide the user with a clear, authentic base image. The user does not need to learn or install any additional software to operate Digital ICE.

ASF's Digital ICE technology is also available in scanners manufactured by Nikon, Minolta, Durst, Kodak, Benq (formerly Acer) and UMAX. Digital ICE has also rapidly become the de facto standard in digital minilabs, and can be found in several models from Noritsu and Gretag.

ASF's product portfolio consists of the Digital ICE3 film scanner suite, Digital ICE, Digital ROC(TM) and Digital GEM(TM), the individual components of the suite, Digital ICE and Digital ROC for photo prints, Digital ROC plug-in for color restoration and Digital SHO(TM) plug-in for revealing details of dark image-areas. ASF is also the innovator in digital dry film processing, with its environmentally friendly Digital PIC technology. Digital PIC develops exposed film directly into a high-resolution RGB digital format file in minutes. Digital PIC produces a DigiPIX(TM) CD that contains the image files from which photographic quality images can be easily printed and distributed electronically. More information can be found on ASF's Web site at www.asf.com.
