Reports from Japan suggest production delays have pushed the digital SLR's debut back...
A report in the Japanese Photographic Enterprises Association (JPEA)'s "Photo Electro News" suggests that Contax are to delay their 'N Digital' single lens reflex digital camera, a model first described to the Japanese market in July 2000. Initial reports suggested the camera would be released in May 2001, with a target price just over US$9000. An official announcement with full specifications appeared in both Japan and the USA last November, and again reports we heard suggested a date and price - this time February 2002 at a price nearer $6500.
Now, the Photo Electro News article - which we were led to by the Newsline International page at the Photo Marketing Association International (PMAI) website - reports that "production delays" are going to cause this date to be pushed back for the Japanese market. Whether this will also apply to the US market, we don't currently know - we're endeavouring to contact Contax USA to confirm the story. Watch this space!
