Modules Provide Complete Solution, or Work with Many Existing Products

LAS VEGAS, March 2-The first complete digital workflow from a single supplier for school "underclass" and special event photography was announced today by Kodak Professional, a division of Eastman Kodak Company. The Kodak ProShots Groups Workflow Solution seamlessly links customers' photograph order data collected at image capture to beautiful pictures at order fulfillment.

By embedding invisible bar code data into images taken with the Kodak Professional DCS Pro 14n digital camera, the Groups workflow solution whisks images through the studio and into the lab for printing using a wide variety of devices and technologies. This system offers an optional package that allows captured images to be rendered and printed onsite for proofs and fulfillment at special events, such as proms and sporting events.

"We offer 'crowd control' for professional imagers," said Wayne Didas, Worldwide Product Manager, Workflow Solutions, Kodak Professional. "Our ProShots Groups Workflow Solution is optimized for the high-volume, low-priced nature of school, sports and event businesses. It's also customizable to handle specific requirements."

While digital components from other manufacturers could be used at any step in the workflow, the system excels when Kodak Professional products are used, Didas said.

Here's how an optimal ProShots Groups Workflow Solution looks:

Images are captured by a modified DCS Pro 14n digital camera employing special firmware, which interprets standard bar code data picked up by a compatible bar code reader connected to the camera. "The source of the bar code can be on an order envelope or linked to data already in the workflow," Didas explained. "We built this system for ease of use and flexibility."

In-studio Kodak ProShots Groups Software is provided via a lab fulfillment module. The camera, bar code-reading hardware and ProShots-branded software link each file to its subject, and also link the studio to the lab.

An on-site fulfillment module is available for event applications. It is designed for use with the Kodak Professional ML-500 Digital Print System, for when images are best provided as soon as possible, sometimes even while an event, such as a basketball game or prom, is in progress. The printer's 270-prints-per-hour capacity offers clear advantages over current onsite inkjet solutions.

At the lab, images can be printed on virtually any digital output device. Kodak Professional's family of digital printers-the RP30, SRP30, RR30 laser and RP50 LED printers-meets the requirements of many high-, medium- and low-volume lab output needs. The system also can accommodate many printers from other manufacturers. As a final step, use of Kodak Professional's new Endura color negative papers and thermal output media assures beautiful pictures that are durable and long lasting.

Some components of the Kodak Professional ProShots Groups Workflow Solution can be purchased today, with availability of the entire system beginning in April through authorized dealers of Kodak Professional digital imaging products and solutions.

Eastman Kodak Company and infoimaging
Kodak is the leader in helping people take, share, enhance, preserve, print and enjoy pictures-for memories, for information, for entertainment. Kodak harnesses its technology, market reach and a host of industry partnerships to provide innovative products and services for customers who need the information-rich content that images contain. The company, with sales last year of $12.8 billion, is organized into four major businesses: Photography, providing consumers, professionals and cinematographers with digital and traditional products and services; Commercial Imaging, offering image capture, output and storage products and services to businesses and government; Components, delivering flat-panel displays, optics and sensors to original equipment manufacturers; and Health, supplying the healthcare industry with traditional and digital image capture and output products and services.
