Fuji Photo Film U.S.A. Inc has today announced two closely related point'n'shoot digital cameras, the Fujifilm FinePix A330 and A340.
Occupying the same space in the lineup as Fujifilm's previous FinePix A310 model, the new FinePix A330 is a three megapixel, 3x optical zoom model. The FinePix A340 shares pretty much identical features and specifications, but with a four megapixel sensor. Both cameras have a new sliding "clamshell" lens cover that also functions as a power switch, and have been engineered for improved operation speed (roughly 3.3 seconds start-up time, and 1.7 seconds shot-to-shot time). The cameras both offer a 15 frames per second movie mode (without sound), as opposed to the A310's 10 frames per second. Power consumption has also been improved, with an expected 220 shots on two AA alkaline batteries (without LCD or flash). Four scene modes have been added to the cameras, to assist in capturing photos in common situations. One last interesting feature is that in addition to the sliding lens cover that acts as a power switch, the cameras can be powered on to review images by pressing the playback button with the lens cover closed - reducing the startup time since there's no need to extend the lens.
The Fujifilm FinePix A330 should ship in March at a price of $199.99 list, while the A340 will follow in May at a list price of $249.99.

Faster Operation
The FinePix A330 and A340 offer a 3.3 second start-up time, and an increased efficiency in frame-to-frame shooting. Both models also offer improved power consumption, taking an average of 250 images (FinePix A330) and 220 images (FinePix A340) on a new set of AA alkaline batteries, with the flash on half of the time and LCD off. By using 2300 mAh-type rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, the FinePix A330 can take 540 images and the FinePix A340 can take 460 images under the same conditions.
