PRESS RELEASE: Major Expansion of DSLR Camera Support Planned For C1 RAW Workflow Software
PMA CONVENTION, LAS VEGAS, NV, February 12, 2004 - Phase One, the world leader in professional digital imaging camera backs and software, is pleased to announce its critically-acclaimed C1 RAW Workflow software now supports the full Canon line of DSLRs on both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
This new major release adds support for the Canon 300D Digital Rebel to all Windows versions as well as the Canon, 10D, D60 and D30 to all Macintosh versions, in addition to the 1Ds and 1D.
Fuji, Nikon, and Olympus shooters can soon join as well
In May, C1 will support Nikon D2h/D70/D1h/D1x/D100 as well as Fuji S2 on both Win and Mac platforms. Current C1 Windows versions already offer support for Nikon 1Dx (PRO/SE) and D100 (PRO/SE/LE). Phase One has received many requests about adding camera support from photographers using Nikon, Fuji, and Olympus DSLRs. From May (Olympus soon after), these shooters can benefit from the superior image quality and unique workflow efficiency C1 provides.
"We listen to our customers, and I am excited to extend the efficiency and quality that only the C1 RAW Workflow can offer to a new audience of professional and enthusiast photographers that will expand even further with our increased camera support plan for our May release," states Henrik Hkonsson, CEO Phase One. "Our highest priority in 2004 is to be able to support all DSLR shooters who show an interest in the C1 RAW Workflow."
Lower entry cost with C1 SE turns out a success
Also introduced is C1 SE (Special Edition), a new member of the C1 RAW Workflow product line-up for both Windows and Mac. Priced at $249, the C1 SE version offers full camera support previously only available in the C1 PRO versions and thus lowers the entry cost for photographers shooting with high-end digital SLR cameras by half - from $499 (C1 PRO) to $249 (C1 SE).
"C1 SE is an appetizer! Once photographers get used to working with the C1 RAW Workflow and recognize the hours they save and the range of creative opportunities offered to them by having a professional workflow, most of them will decide to upgrade to the C1 PRO version." Henrik Hkonsson continues.
Increased functionality - C1 PRO and C1 SE
In addition, both C1 PRO and C1 SE versions on the Macintosh platform have increased functionality including:
 Split windows for enhanced dual monitor support (C1 PRO);
 Unlimited output files per conversion (C1 PRO);
 Support for IPTC metadata notation;
 Individual profile, noise reduction, sharpening settings on an
image-by-image basis;
 QuickProof technology for ultra-fast proofing directly from the
RAW data utilizing any applied conversion settings.
For the Windows platform, feature improvements include:
 Enhanced curves control;
 Improved Sorting & Tagging of thumbnails;
 180-degree image rotation;
 Option to fully disable sharpening;
 Other numerous improvements and fixes.
Both platform versions receive automatic online activation and also include internal online checking for the latest available releases, as well as a new tone curve called "film high-contrast." This new curve has been added to C1's three existing curves: linear, film standard, and film extra-shadow. With the ability to select both a tonality curve and a camera profile for each image, C1 offers the most versatile approach to RAW image processing.
Michael Tapes, Senior Product Manager, C1 DSLR Product Group, stated: "This new high-contrast tone curve adds an optional alternative to the predominant usage of our core users who love the subtleties, fine details and tonality that only C1 RAW conversion can achieve. However, a substantial number of users and nascent users have asked us for a quick and easy solution for achieving the more saturated and contrasty 'JPEG look' that is typically output by today's range of DSLRs in JPEG mode while maintaining the flexibility and higher resolution and quality of RAW.
"With the addition of this new high-contrast tone curve, we believe that we will bring a new range of photographers into the C1 user community. The new curve provides enhanced workflow efficiency for those who need a higher-contrast look as an alternative to the sophisticated tonal gradations achievable by C1's other standard tone curves."
C1 RAW Workflow software is used daily by thousands of photographic pros and enthusiasts worldwide and is recognized as the most efficient, fully color-managed RAW Workflow image-processing solution for delivering the highest possible image quality from the new generation of digital SLR cameras.
The C1 RAW Workflow software is available from leading pro photo dealers throughout North America as well as the three authorized C1 web sites: www.c1dslr.com (Denmark), www.pictureflow.com (US) and www.pixource.com (Asia).
