(www.exanetworks.com) today announced the debut of a revolutionary low-bandwidth photo sharing technology and infrastructure that will simplify photo sharing by digital photographers and commercial licensees to specified end users. eXaNetworks unveiled the service at the Photo Marketing Association International (PMA) Annual Convention and Trade Show in Las Vegas.

A Linux version of the application is in development.

The company will initially market its services to photofinishing labs. Other planned markets include C2C, professional photographers, and OEMs. Serex noted that leading server-centric photo-sharing services require high-end servers, resulting in a higher cost of scaling. "When you have many thousands of users, server-centric photo sharing services are a nightmare to manage," he said. "They require enormous bandwidth, expensive infrastructure, complex backup systems, and a great deal of capital to maintain. With eXaNetworks' solution, the cost of servers grows linearly with number of paying accounts."
