PRESS RELEASE: Sony ImageStation Offers Consumers the Ability to Access and Share Digital Images Everywhere
LAS VEGAS (PMA, Booth #M30), Feb. 11, 2004 - Whether in the office, on the go, or in the comfort of your living room, busy consumers will easily be able to access digital images with two exciting new services to be coming from Sony ImageStation®. Beyond the core ImageStation Online service which provides access to photos via a PC, photo buffs will soon have access to, along with the ability to share, an unlimited amount of digital images directly from a web-enabled mobile phone. Additionally, ImageStation on TV service is planned as another service to consumers allowing access directly from your TV.
"ImageStation is committed to offering consumers access to their digital images from anywhere," said Bob Nell, vice president of network services for Sony Electronics eSolutions Company LLC. "And with the eventual availability of mobile phone and television access, we've taken this commitment one step further."
ImageStation mobile access service will provide the ability to upload, access and share digital images directly from a web-enabled mobile phone. According to Nell, the fee-based service will be designed to be compatible with most WAP 2.0 compliant mobile phone browsers with wireless data service and is designed to work on any unrestricted U.S. wireless carrier data network. The mobile phone service is planned to be available in the spring.
ImageStation on TV service will showcase it's technology at the Las Vegas PMA show. This service will allow you to browse digital photo albums, create slideshows and order prints directly from your television. Sony is currently working with set-top box and media gateway manufacturers to make this service commercially available.
ImageStation Online service offers the ability to create and share an unlimited number of online albums, free of charge; order high quality photo prints; create professional style photo books; and make fun photo gifts including calendars, cards, mugs and cookies.
