As part of a batch of new digital camera announcements for this year's Photo Marketing Association tradeshow in Orlando, Florida, Sony has unveiled its new Syber-shot DSC-S60 and DSC-S90 models.

The cameras are closely related, with both featuring a similar body design, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens, and four megapixel imager. Unusually (and we'd say laudably, given the fact that it flies in the face of the common-place industry practice of creating multiple models with no difference beyond their imager resolution), Sony has chosen to differentiate the cameras based on their LCD size, rather than their megapixel ratings. The lower-cost DSC-S60 model features a 2.0 inch LCD; the DSC-S90 model upgrades this to a 2.5" LCD with identical resolution. The higher-resolution LCD, says Sony, will be more conducive to on-the-spot sharing of images with friends and family. Most other features of the cameras are identical; it should be noted that the S90 is just a touch heavier thanks to the larger LCD display, however.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S60 will ship with a pricetag of $249.95, while the S90 will cost $299.95. Both cameras will be in stores from mid-March in the USA.
