Understand the implications of EXIF metadata, then view data on your images in PhotoShop and import it into a FileMaker database...

Pixel Genius LLC, a group of 8 people with extensive backgrounds in photography and software design, has released a new version of its MetaReader plugin for PhotoShop 6.0. Available for both Mac and Windows systems, MetaReader v1.1 can be downloaded free and allows you to view EXIF metadata that is stored along with images (which depending on the camera can vary from simple things like shutter speeds and apertures used, to the obscure items such as the distance away that the lens was focused, or whether the LCD viewfinder was enabled).

Not familiar with metadata, and why it can be useful to you? You'll also find the Metadata Primer written by Pixel Genius members Jeff Schewe and Seth Resnick in either HTML or PDF format to help you understand just what you can use it for.

Along with MetaReader, you'll find a FileMaker database template which you can use to import image info from the MetaReader log file into your database, and a discussion group hosted at Yahoo! Groups where you can talk about metadata and its implications for imaging.
