IR reader and working pro Tim Barnett has developed a super-slick site (http://www.digitalphotosonline.com) to let pros manage their photos online, give clients real-time access!
I got an email the other day from reader and working pro Tim Barnett. In the best entrepreneurial "necessity is the mother of invention" fashion, he's developed a really comprehensive online solution for pros to manage access to and licensing of their digital images.
Tim's system really seems to have it all: Real-time price calculators and/or negotiated prices, password protection and download tracking, automatic watermarking of FPO thumbnails, keyword searching (auto extract of keywords from IPTC data fields), credit card gateway if you have a merchant account, the list goes on and on. No hardware, software, or hosting hassles either, Tim's solution is offered as a turnkey service, all you (or your clients) need to access it is a web browser.
Good things don't usually come for free, and Tim's system is no exception: It looks like there's a goodly up-front time investment in setting up all your information, price structures, password-protected areas, uploading images, etc. There's also a (pretty modest, if you ask me) $50 monthly fee for using the system, which includes a gigabyte of online photo storage. (Additional space can be leased as you need it.)
Telling the full story is way beyond what I can do here in a brief news item, but if you're a practicing commercial photographer, Tim's solution really deserves a close look. - You can get a 30 day free trial with no obligation by clicking here. For a look at the system in action, check out Tim's own site, at http://www.timbarnett.com.
Very slick, the best service of its type I've seen to date. (Actually, I haven't seen anything that offers all the capabilities that Digital Photos Online does. - Worth a look...)
