4 megapixel, 3x optical zoom digicam from the Japanese manufacturer gets the once-over from Steve Sanders...
The folks at Steve's Digicams have today posted a full review of Kyocera's FineCam S4, a model that was announced just before this year's PMA 2002 show in Orlando last February. Hardware-wise the camera is essentially identical to the Toshiba Allegretto PDR-3310 with the exception of the external body styling (we believe Kyocera actually makes both cameras, as we noticed the Toshiba model ships with Kyocera batteries), so those interested in the Toshiba variant may be interested in Steve's review as well. Steve concludes: "If compact is what you want, four megapixel cameras don't come any smaller than the S4, at least not at the time of this review. I'm still no big fan of the MMC / SD memory cards as they're more expensive than CF or SM cards and the data transfer rate is a bit slow in comparison. At least SD / MMC cards are now readily available up to 128MB and soon in even larger capacities. If you like the Canon ELPH digicams but want more than two megapixel resolution the Kyocera Finecam S4 may be just what you're looking for. Just remember to factor in the cost of a larger memory card and a second battery, you'll be purchasing them sooner or later." At the current time, Steve's is the only review we're aware of for the FineCam S4 (and we've not seen any reviews of the PDR-3310 yet).
