We just received an email from the folks at Nikon Inc., reminding us that the camera is due to ship in just two days' time on June 28th. For the first time, the email confirms US pricing - which has been much rumored up 'til now, but not officially announced.
"So," we hear you ask with bated breath, "how much?" According to Nikon's email, the US MSRP (manufacturer's standard retail price) for the D100 digital camera is (drum roll, please!) - US$2500.00!
How's this compare with the competition? Well, pretty much identical, actually - Canon's EOS D60 digital camera has an SLP (Suggested List Price) of US$2499 for the 'Body Only' package, or US$2699 for the 'EOS D60 Kit' which adds a battery pack and power adapter. The D60 has MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) figures of $1999 / $2199, and we'd similarly expect that as supply meets demand the D100 will likewise ship a bit below its MSRP pricing. Fuji's FinePix S2 Pro meanwhile has street pricing of US$2399.
If you want to purchase the Nikon D100, we highly recommend placing an order as soon as possible - Canon's EOS D60 has been in tight supply since it shipped, and we'd expect the same to occur with the Nikon camera. Preorders aren't currently available, but as a service to our readers, you can register your name and email address here, and we'll notify you via email as soon as our partner Ritz Camera begins accepting preorders!
