PRESS RELEASE: NikonNet and "Legends Behind The Lens" feature the work of White House Photojournalist Kevin T. Gilbert in September
MELVILLE, NY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2002 - This September, NikonNet and its inspiring monthly Legends Behind the Lens series (www.nikonnet.com/legends ) will examine the work of Kevin T. Gilbert, an award-winning photojournalist and former President of the White House News Photographers' Association (WHNPA) who is now sharing his passion for digital photography with others through a new digital curriculum at Nikon School. Gilbert's career as a photojournalist has spanned two decades, working to cover political campaigns, international summits, happenings at the White House and other major events, including professional sports. After leaving the newspaper profession in 1998, Gilbert has worked as a successful freelance photographer and digital photography consultant through Blue Pixel, a leading digital consulting group, which he helped found and where he remains a managing partner. "From the White House to the professional sports arena, from newspapers to the classroom, Kevin T. Gilbert can be described as a 'renaissance man' when it comes to photography," said Tracy Mack-Jackson, manager of Internet programs at Nikon Inc. "His passion for digital photography, coupled with his efforts to share his knowledge with others through lectures, consulting and the new Nikon School digital curriculum, makes him a great example for NikonNet readers." Gilbert and his partners at the Blue Pixel consulting group have recently joined forces with Nikon to coordinate the development of two new courses - Digital 101 and Advanced Digital Workflow - as part of the new digital curriculum for the popular Nikon School series. Combining Blue Pixel's in-depth knowledge of digital photography with Nikon's own expertise in the field, the new programs will educate photographers on the terminology, techniques and applications of digital imaging at all skill levels. Aside from his most recent work with Nikon School, and his responsibilities with Blue Pixel, Kevin T. Gilbert also serves as President of a production company, which shoots digital still imagery for corporations and television networks. Additionally, he has done contract photography for clients such as The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, The Learning Channel, USA Networks, American Photo magazine, Turner Network Sports, Ford Motor Company, and Mark Burnett Productions and the Travel Channel. Gilbert has traveled extensively to photograph subjects and events around the world, including the annual Eco-Challenge® Adventure Race, which aside from television, can be seen in NikonNet's On the Road Again Series.
Gilbert has received many awards in recognition of the quality and importance of his work. He is the recipient of more than 35 photography awards from the White House News Photographers' Association, The National Press Photographers Association, The Society of Newspaper Design, and the Maryland-DC Press Association. The newly expanded Nikon School, including the Digital 101 and Advanced Digital Workflow courses, kicks off its 25-city season in Chicago this month.
