A news article published yesterday by an Japanese online industry journal, the "NikkeiBP Network", brings with it a rumor of an upcoming digital rangefinder camera from Contax.

According to the NikkeiBP item, Kyocera (the company behind the Contax brand) has started development of a digital variant in its 'G' series, which currently consists of two interchangeable-lens AF rangefinder cameras. The only other detail in the item is that at this time, there's no suggestion as to whether the development work will actually result in a product release...

The Contax G1 and G2 (shown above) were released in 1994 and 1996 respectively. The G1 currently sells for around US$700, and the G2 for about US$1150, both prices being for the camera body only.
