A post from pro photographer Rob Galbraith on his news page notes that the Minimum Advertised Price for the Canon EOS-1Ds has now been set.
Rob says that he's heard from Canon's Chuck Westfall to say that the MAP price has been set at $7999, some $1000 below the suggested list price, and double the expected street price of Kodak's DCS Pro 14n. (Kodak has told us that the 14n will list for $4995, with a street price "near USD$4,000").
A letter has apparently gone out to dealers detailing the pricing and availability info for the EOS-1Ds. A MAP price is usually a good indicator of the street price for a camera, as retailers are forbidden from putting a lower price into their advertisements - so we'd expect to see the EOS-1Ds reach the market at somewhere around US$7999 or thereabouts.
Rob also has an interesting sneak preview of Adobe's new plugin for processing RAW files from unspecified digital cameras...
