An article from Reuters over the weekend notes that Canon Inc. is returning production of some product lines to Japan from overseas.
The story originated in Japan's Nihon Keizai Shimbun newspaper, and notes that as part of the move, Canon will be investing ¥100 billion (US$834 million, ignoring currency fluctuations) over the next three years on automating production lines. The first products to return to Japan will apparently be ink-jet printer cartridges, followed by small film cameras and home-use ink-jet printers.
