Digital SLR prices continue to plunge (UPDATED)
By
(Monday, March 31, 2003 - 20:07 EST)

We told you last week that Sigma had adjusted pricing of its SD9 digital camera in light of Canon's EOS 10D, with both cameras now shipping at a cost of $1499.

It seems that Nikon has now adjusted the pricing of its popular D100, which for a while was the price-leader when it began shipping in July (pricing being about $200 less than Canon's $2200 EOS D60, and finally beaten in November by the Sigma SD9 at about $1800). The D100 is now available for $1700, reversing the situation from eight months ago and giving both Canon and Sigma an advantage of some $200. Fuji's FinePix S2 Pro meanwhile is still selling at about $2400, the same price it first shipped for last July.

To help readers in choosing which cameras they should be considering, we're providing a brief summary of the features of each camera side-by-side below. Much of the decision will come down to individual preferences - for example, which lens mount you prefer, whether you want a Foveon imager or one with a color filter array, whether you prefer maximum resolution at the expense of a larger interpolated file size, etc. - but where a category has definite winner(s), they are marked with an orange cell:
