An email from Max Penson, Editor and Owner of the Israeli digital imaging website D-Spot.co.il, alerted us to some interesting news published by Fuji Israel.
According to a page on the Fuji Israel website, the company will be introducing an SLR-style camera called the FinePix S5000. The encoding of that web page seems to be incorrect as the text won't display properly for us, however for anybody who can read Hebrew, Max has published an article on the D-Spot site.
If you can't read Hebrew, then read on for a brief summary. Max tells us that the camera will have a 3.1 megapixel SuperCCD HR CCD imager giving a final image size of just under 6 megapixel interpolated (2816 x 2120 pixels). It will have an electronic viewfinder, 10x optical zoom lens, 2.2x digital zoom, xD-Picture Card storage, power from 4 AA batteries, and will finally have the ability to shoot images in RAW mode...
UPDATED 2003-07-22 02:26ET: IR reader Michael Watkins wrote in to point out a website that is listing the Fuji FinePix S5000 kit at $499. We won't advertise the site here, as they don't actually have any way to order right now - the site just links to Amazon.com.
A Google search of our own after reading the email turned up another company, Unique Photo, listing the same price. They also have a much larger image of the camera, which you can see by clicking here... Thanks, Michael!
UPDATED 2003-07-22 13:31ET: We notice that the Fuji Israel and D-Spot pages have been removed, so we have removed our links to them. The Unique Photo website still has a small picture of the camera...
Thanks to
Max Penson of D-Spot.co.il
for this item!
