01:00ET - Nikon last announced a professional-level digital SLR camera in February 2001; today that changes with the introduction of a new model aimed squarely at matching or beating Canon's EOS-1D.

Canon announced the EOS-1D on September 25th 2001, a little over six months after Nikon's D1X and D1H cameras were unveiled.
