Long-zoom digicams are getting more popular all the time, and for good reason: A 10x zoom lens is a lot of fun, and really practical too, for grabbing closeup shots of subjects like sports players or wildlife.
Minolta's new DiMAGE Z1 is one of the latest additions to this field, and promises long-zoom shooting at a lower price point than previously available. To achieve its low cost, it employs a unique "flipping" LCD, which uses the same LCD screen to provide both rear-panel and eyelevel viewfinder displays. At this point, I've only looked at a prototype version of the Z1, so this is only a First Look review, with no sample images or detailed test results. Based on this first look though, the Z1 appears promising, definitely a model to watch, once I get my hands on a production sample. Check it out!
