Olympus has for some time now split the high end of their line, producing both a "no holds barred" model as well as a slightly trimmed-down model aimed at a lower price point.
Over the years, these "second tier" Olympus digicams have consistently been some of the best price/performance bargains in the digicam marketplace, and the new C-5000 Zoom is no exception. With a lower-ratio zoom lens (3x vs 4x), no audio recording capability, and slightly reduced exposure-control options, the C-5000 has slightly less capability than the current top of the Olympus line, the C-5060 Wide Zoom (stay tuned for a full review on that camera fairly shortly), but emphasis should be on the word "slightly." This is a very full-featured digicam, with all the "enthusiast" features you could ask for (except possibly an autofocus-assist light) and great image quality, all at a bargain price.
Overall, one of the best bargains for a full-featured five-megapixel camera currently on the market. Check it out!
