A second press release from Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung Techwin Co. Ltd.'s US subsidiary at the PMA show details three new closely related Digimax digital cameras.
The Samsung Digimax 202, 301 and 401 all share near-identical bodies (the base Digimax 202 has slightly different cosmetic styling to its higher-spec siblings). The Digimax 202 features a 1/2" 2.0 megapixel effective CMOS sensor, fixed-focus 9.0mm lens, 1.6" LCD display, five-mode flash, Secure Digital / Multimediacard storage, 6MB of internal memory, USB 1.1 and DC input connectivity and power from 2 AA batteries or Samsung's new I-Pack battery. The Digimax 301 replaces the image sensor with a 1/2.7" 3.2 megapixel CCD sensor, and the lens with a 33mm-equivalent fixed focus lens. other changes compared to the 202 are that the internal memory has been upgraded to 16MB, and NTSC / PAL video output has been added. Finally, the Digimax 401 features a 1/2.5" CCD with a resolution of 4.0 megapixels, other features being the same as the Digimax 301. The Samsung Digimax 202 will cost $99.99, the Digimax 301 will be $129.99, and the Digimax 401 will be $179.99; no availability information was given at the time of this writing. Original Source Press Release:
SAMSUNG LAUNCHES NEW RANGE OF INEXPENSIVE ENTRY LEVEL DIGITAL CAMERAS Ideal for First Time Buyers and Promotional Purposes SECAUCUS, N.J., (February 12, 2004) – Samsung Camera today announced the launch of its new Samsung Digimax 401, 301 and 202 digital still cameras. At 4.0, 3.14 and 2.0 effective megapixels respectively, the Digimax 401, 301 and 202 combine to form a new range of entry level compact digital still cameras designed specifically for first time users and promotional purposes. Like all Samsung digital still cameras, each of these new models was designed to be the price/performance leader in its respective class. With approximate street prices of $179.99 for the 401, $129.99 for the 301 and $99.99 for the 202, there is little doubt that these new models will easily achieve that objective. "Every Samsung Digimax model is designed to be the price/performance leader within its class," said Ken Gerb, Senior Vice President of Sales for Samsung Camera. "From the V Series cameras at the highest end of the spectrum to these three models at the entry level position, consumers can count on Samsung cameras to offer all of the same features and functionalities as the other major manufacturers' cameras -- at lower price points. Our strategy is to deliver a unique combination of quality AND value, and this new entry-level line typifies that approach". Samsung's ever-increasing array of creative, functional and stylish products has taken the technology markets by storm, with innovations and product enhancements that have garnered rave reviews. From the company's cellular phone products to the array of flat panel displays used by corporate and personal computer users across the world, Samsung has remained committed to providing the customer with the best technology possible. Samsung Camera's Digimax camera line is no exception to the company's goal of global product excellence. As the world's largest chip manufacturer, and one of the few manufacturers to make the vast majority of its own camera components, Samsung is able to offer cutting edge technology at cutting edge prices across the board. These three new entry level cameras underscore that strategy, as they all offer a host of features not commonly found in products within their respective price ranges. All three cameras are highly compact, measuring just 98 x 38 x 51 mm, and all offer a unique double self timer feature. This feature allows users to set the camera’s automatic timer to take a photo after ten seconds, followed by another photo just two seconds later. The Digimax 401 offers a 4x digital zoom, while the 301 features a 3x digital zoom. At 4.0 and 3.14 megapixels, respectively, both cameras deliver crystal clear images that are suitable for printing and framing or sharing with family and friends electronically. Both are compatible with eight different power sources (2 x AA alkaline, 2 x Ni-MH, CR-V3 (Lithium), Ni-Cd, 2 x Ni-Zn, 2 x Ni-Mn, I-Pack and optional AC adapter). Both also allow users to attach voice memos to still images and capture high quality video clips with sound at a maximum rate of 20fps for as long as the capacity of the memory card in use will allow. Both offer multiple flash modes, including Auto, Auto & Red-eye reduction, Slow sync, Fill-in flash and Flash off. Finally, both the 401 and 301 models allow the user to choose between Normal, B&W and Sepia tone for images with maximum artistic effect. The Samsung Digimax 202 is the most aggressively priced model within the rapidly expanding Digimax range, and was designed to virtually eliminate all remaining barriers of entry to the digital-imaging world. With a street price of under $100, the Digimax 202 is poised to usher even the most tentative and budget conscious snap shooters into the digital age. A 2.0 megapixel digital camera with 2x digital zoom, the 202 features multiple flash modes including Auto, Fill-in flash, Flash off and Auto & Red-eye reduction, Slow sync. The 202 allows users to choose from a host of white balance settings, such as Auto, Daylight, Sunset, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Tungsten and Custom. Unlike many 2 megapixel cameras, the 202 is also capable of capturing both still images and video, further adding to the immense value it offers for the money. Like the other models in the entry level Digimax range, the 202 is compatible with eight different power sources, ensuring that users will always be able to get the shots they want, no matter where their travels may take them. All Samsung Digimax cameras come equipped with Mass Storage Driver, MGI PhotoSuite and Digimax Viewer software applications. All are designed to set new standards from price/performance within their respective classes and all are created with, quality, ease-of-use and value in mind.
