PRESS RELEASE: Canon's two new scanners deliver unparalleled performance and quality for professional and home use
Canon's new CanoScan® 4200F and 9950F Color Image Scanners Deliver Fast, Clear Scans With the Ability to Support Film, Negatives and More
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., Sept. 9, 2004 - Some of the most poignant memories of the past have been captured on film or printed in documents, prompting consumers and professionals alike to preserve slides, printed photos and documents. Canon's new CanoScan 4200F and 9950F scanners produce clear, sharp and exceptional color that provides consumers with a simple and high quality solution for conserving and restoring old images and documents.
"Canon's history as a leading imaging technology provider has been the backbone for our understanding of the products that will meet the needs of today's consumers and professionals," said Yukiaki Hashimoto, senior vice president and general manager of the consumer imaging group at Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE CAJ). "Whether scanning old family photos or documents for a presentation, Canon's newest scanners deliver exceptional color and provide ease of use with features such as outstanding speed, advanced Z-Lid™ Expansion Top, and an easy one-touch push button design."
New Optical Technology
The CanoScan 9950F includes Canon's Hyper CCD IV, a new optical system that enables super high resolutions of up to 4800 x 9600 dpi, providing improved scan depth and reduced noise. The CanoScan 9950F model also features a new ST Lens (Super Toric Lens) system, making it the first flatbed scanner in Canon's line of products to include an aspherical lens element. When paired with the ST Lens System, the CanoScan 9950F model is able to produce visibly clearer and more accurate results with finer detail by enabling the aspherical element to set curvatures for main and sub-scanning separately. In addition, the new ST Lens System includes a large aperture allowing a greater amount of light to be transmitted through the lens to the sensor for higher quality and faster scans.
CanoScan 4200F Color Image Scanner
The CanoScan 4200F Color Image Scanner is the ideal match for any home or office, providing brilliant scans from a wide range of materials, making preserving documents and old photos simple. A maximum optical resolution of 3200 x 6400 dpi and 48-bit color depth makes it possible to create over 281 trillion colors. Scanning with large or bulky items is manageable with Canon's exclusive Z-Lid Expansion Top, which automatically lifts approximately one inch vertically and lays flat on the item being scanned.
The USB 2.0 Hi-Speed* interface enables incredibly fast image transfers to your computer with previews of scans ready in approximately 2.6 seconds. The CanoScan 4200F Color Image Scanner is equipped with four easy one-touch buttons for scanning, copying, emailing and creating PDF files. With the multi-scan mode users can scan multiple images in one pass and automatically open them into separate image files.
Users can also archive old slides and negatives by placing them in the film adapter included with the scanner, which can handle up to four 35 mm negatives and two 35 mm slides. The automatic retouching and enhancement technology on the CanoScan 4200F Color Image Scanner automatically removes dirt that may appear on originals, providing users with cleaner and more full-bodied scans.
CanoScan 9950F Color Image Scanner
The CanoScan 9950F scanner is designed for production level scanning with the ability to support a wide range of originals, including photos, documents, transparencies and professional film including negatives and transparencies up to large-format 4x5 inch.
Using Canon's multi-scan mode, the CanoScan 9950F scanner can automatically scan up to thirty 35mm negative frames and import each frame into an individual file. With a maximum hardware resolution of 4800x9600 dpi - the highest in its class - and 48-bit color depth, the CanoScan 9950F scanner produces the quality needed from both film and photograph scans.
New Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement (FARE level 3) found in the CanoScan 9950F scanner is the latest generation of Canon's built-in hardware automatic retouching technology. FARE level 3 technology automatically performs an infrared scan that examines the films surface for dust and scratches and removes the unwanted imperfections from the final scan. Additional features include grain and fading correction for added productivity and also Backlight correction - a new function that lets users easily adjust the for exposure errors from backlit subjects.
Canon's four-button design on the CanoScan 9950F scanner - copy, scan, PDF and e-mail - helps users expedite common scanning tasks with single-touch simplicity. The PDF button converts documents directly into PDF (Portable Document Format) files for easy sharing with others over the Internet or e-mail. In addition to the default settings from Canon, each button can be customized to perform the tasks most often used by the consumer. The unit also scans multi-page documents to a single PDF file. For large files, a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection will assure the highest possible transfer rates with previews available in approximately 3.6 seconds.
Canon helps manage scanning tasks by including several software titles** on the setup CD-Rom. For the CanoScan 4200F and 9950F scanners ScanGear® CS***, CanoScan Toolbox, ArcSoft®PhotoStudio® and ScanSoft® OmniPage® SE OCR are included. Additionally, Adobe® Photoshop® Elements 2.0, and Presto! PageManager (Windows based only) is bundled with the CanoScan 9950F scanner.
