Beginners Luck Not Required for Great Results with Olympus D-535 Zoom

Compact Digital Camera Offers “One Touch ” Controls, Enhanced Easy-to- handle Menu, Large 1.5-Inch LCD Display, Super Macro Mode Shooting, and More

Melville, New York, September 16, 2004 – First-time digital camera users can now have the best of both worlds: ease of use and great results in virtually any setting with the 3.2-megapixel D-535 Zoom digital camera from Olympus. The camera's wonderfully easy operation is due in part to its “One Touch ” design with separate buttons for shooting, playing back and erasing digital images. While simple to use, the camera employs advanced technologies to deliver maximum performance in an affordable point-and-shoot model.

“At Olympus we realize that aspiring digital photographers might find their first digital camera purchasing experience overwhelming and intimidating,” said Naoki Tai , product manager , Olympus America Inc. “The D-535 Zoom is specifically designed for ease of operation while allowing new users to enjoy the various functions and many advantages of digital photography to the fullest.”

The stylish, compact D-535 Zoom is customized for entry-level users who have been unable to make full use of their digital camera functions in the past, but also boasts many of the robust features found in more complex models. Choosing options from the shooting and playback menus displayed on the LCD monitor is now simplified with a new help function that displays a brief description of each function and mode's purpose. Beginners will soon realize they are able to enjoy all – not just some – of this camera's features for the best digital experience possible.

Intelligent Design for the Most Realistic Digital Images
The D-535 Zoom features a 3.2-megapixel CCD imaging sensor for crisp, vivid images at a range of print sizes up to 8”x10” and larger . Olympus world-class high quality 3x Optical Zoom lens (38-114mm, equivalent in 35mm photography , f 2.9 – f5. 0 ), when combined with a 4x digital zoom, delivers a total seamless 12X zoom.

Designed to Get Closer
With the super macro mode it is possible to capture the smallest details from as close as 0.8 inch such as a tiny insect resting on a flower petal.

Designed For Maximum Usability
In keeping with its “One Touch ” design, the D-535 Zoom offers single button delete and view function. Its separate reset button also allows users to instantly return all settings to the factory defaults to quickly re-start from a clean slate. The available 6 preset shooting modes are conveniently accessed via a rotating mode dial on the back of the camera to provide fully automatic exposure adjustments for the photographer who wants optimum results in a variety of settings: Program Auto, Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, Self Portrait, and Movie.

The QuickTime Movie Mode can be used to make mini movies of life's everyday achievements and events that can be downloaded and emailed to friends and family across town or across the world.

Graphical User Interface (GUI) eliminates complicated tabbed interfaces on the menu architecture, allowing entry-level users to make their selections quickly. The GUI also incorporates a new help function that supplements icon-only display of various functions and shooting modes with a brief description of each function and mode's purpose in the LCD monitor. As a result, users can easily obtain settings that suit their shooting situation and purpose without referring to an instruction manual.

With the added convenience of 1 2 MB of on board internal memory, there is no need to worry about missing a shot because of a lost or forgotten xD-Picture Card.

Digital image management has never been easier than with OLYMPUS Master™ software that enables users of Olympus digital cameras to get the most out of their digital experience. With a logical and intuitive user interface, OLYMPUS Master allows users to instantly store and manage images, by keyword or by shooting date, in an easily-searchable Calendar View database so they never misplace digital photos again. Powerful, one-click editing tools – including improved red-eye reduction – enable users to optimize their images prior to printing on a postcard, index card, calendar, or via online services. Online support, templates, firmware upgrades and other services are just a mouse-click away.

For those shots that demand to be printed, the D-535 Zoom feature PictBridge technology to make printing quality photos a breeze. Simply connect the camera directly via USB cable to any PictBridge-enabled printer – such as the Olympus P-10 Digital Photo Printer.

Auto-Connect USB makes transferring images to either Mac or PC from the D-535 Zoom easy and hassle-free. No extra software is required with most operating systems.

The battery saving “sleep mode” allows users to get the most life possible from their batteries. The camera accepts readily available AA-size alkaline batteries, eliminating worries about finding the right battery on the road.

Designed to Be Seen
One of the greatest benefits of digital photography is the ability to compose and review images on the LCD, as it allows users to accurately frame their photographs and make on-the-spot decisions about saving or deleting them. To ensure that new digital photographers can easily view their subject and frame the best shot possible, the D-535 Zoom has a high-definition, 130,000-pixel 1.5-inch TFT Color LCD – the highest quality display available in an entry level model.

To better read the setting menus on the LCD, the monitor on the D-535 Zoom projects light-colored backgrounds (light blue for shooting mode, light green for playback mode) to quickly confirm the selected operating mode. The text is displayed in black against the light-colored backgrounds, with only the currently active selection shown in yellow text. This use of dark-colored text against a light-colored background increases legibility.

Delivering Style
The D-535 Zoom has a durable polycarbonate body finished in bright silver with a friendly yet elegant contoured design that allows it to fit comfortably in the palm of the hand. To enhance the digital experience even further, this pocket-friendly camera's compact size of 3.4" (W) x 2. 5" (H) x 1.5" (D) and light weight ( 4.9 ounces ) make it easy to carry anywhere to capture all the everyday photo opportunities life presents.

Availability
The D-535 Zoom will be available beginning October 2004. It includes (2) AA alkaline batteries, an Auto-Connect USB cable, Audio/Video Out cable, wrist strap, OLYMPUS Master ™ Software, user manual and Quick Start guide.
