Nikon's logo. Click here to visit the Nikon website! Booth Report: Nikon Inc. (UPDATED)

Though it is surprising to see a high-end SLR with a 4.1 megapixel sensor in 2005, Nikon Inc. was unabashed introducing the D2Hs with just such a sensor.

Speed is the main purpose of the D2Hs, with an 8 frame per second shutter and a buffer that can handle 40 RAW images or 50 JPEGs, and Nikon is betting that its target market of reporters and sports photographers will still want and need such a speed demon. The JFET LBCAST sensor and firmware were redesigned to remove some of the noise that was a problem on the D2H, and a faster, more precise AF system has been employed. The body is sealed against dust and moisture, among other improvements. It is set for release in March for $3,499.95.

In a revamp of their small Coolpix cameras, Nikon introduces the Coolpix 4600, 5600, and 7600. While other manufacturers don't seem to get this principle, Nikon makes their Coolpix model numbers follow the resolution numbers, with the 4600 being a 4 megapixel camera, the 5600 being 5 megapixel, and the 7600 being a 7 megapixel. The 4600 will be priced at $199.95, the 5600 $279.95, and the 7600 goes to $379.95 including the bonus of an ED glass lens.

Moving up the ladder in the quality department are the Coolpix 5900 and 7900. They are nearly identical save for the imager size, which again matches the leading number with the resolution. With both sporting a 2.0 inch display, SD and 13.5MB internal storage, the main differentiator between the two is the color, with the 5 megapixel $349 Coolpix 5900 coming in a more common silver, and the 7 megapixel $449.95 Coolpix 7900 in a beautiful matte jet black.

We don't currently have a good picture of the D2Hs digital SLR; this item will be updated shortly with photos of that camera.
