We've just posted a gallery consisting of 39 photos shot with our prototype Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 digital camera by IR Senior Editor Shawn Barnett and Publisher Dave Etchells.

Shawn and Dave captured a wide selection of images to demonstrate various features of the camera, including ISO sensitivity / noise, aperture / depth of field, zoom range / distortion, exposure, color reproduction, color mode (sRGB, Vivid, Black and White), and Sony's Advanced Gradation Control System, which is intended to adjust contrast to avoid blown highlights and crushed blacks. Do note though that all of these shots were captured with a prototype camera, and as such may not be completely representative of final image quality - but should still represent a benchmark for what you can expect.

We're currently putting the finishing touches to analysis of our standard test image series, and expect to post the test photos and analysis by tomorrow morning at the latest. Check back soon for our thoughts, and in the meantime, browse our Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 sample image gallery!

UPDATE: There's now a complete set of test shots posted, as well as a detailed analysis. NOTE though, that all images at this point were captured by a prototype model, so may not fully represent the capabilities of final production verions. They should still give you a pretty good idea of some of the camera's key characteristics and capabilities. (We found its photos very appealing...)
