A press release from Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd. announces that the company is preparing to release a hardware upgrade for its S3 Pro digital camera on the Japanese market.
Japanese S3 Pro owners will be able to have their camera's memory upgraded from 128MB to 256MB, and the company will begin retailing a new version of the camera with the upgrade already in place. Upgraded cameras will have a burst depth some 2.5 times greater than the original S3 Pro in both RAW and fine / normal JPEG modes.
The upgraded FinePix S3 Pro that will be retailed in Japan also has one further tweak, according to the press release. The "wake from sleep" function (which formerly only worked by half-pressing the landscape-mode shutter release button) will now also work if you half-press the portrait-mode shutter release button, or if the remote control on the 10-pin remote terminal is triggered.
The upgrade procedure will have a cost of ¥31,500 (approximately equivalent to US$284 / CAD$331 / €232 / £157, ignoring exchange rate fluctuations, taxes and duties. During a promotional period until December 29th, the upgrade will be offered at a 30% discount. Overseas availability of the upgrade, or of the upgraded camera, has not been announced at this time.
