Canon Japan and Europe have today announced a new digital camera model that includes built-in wireless LAN connectivity.

The Canon PowerShot SD430 Digital ELPH Wireless is closely related to the existing SD450 model. Other than the addition of an 802.11b wireless LAN function, the SD430 has a slightly smaller 2.0" LCD display, and is slightly larger, at 13mm wider and 1mm higher than the SD430. Weight is similar, with initial specs from Europe suggesting the camera is about 10 grams lighter overall.

The SD430 offers direct printing capability to current SELPHY or PIXMA printers through an included Wireless Print Adapter, as well as wireless transfer of images to a PC either immediately upon capture, or manually at a later stage. It is also possible to wirelessly print images via a printer attached to a computer on the wireless LAN, using only the camera's interface. Finally, the camera offers remote control capability over the wireless LAN, including a live preview of the image to be captured, and control of all settings including lens zoom and shutter release.

Plans for markets ouside of Japan and Europe are not currently available.
