Eastman Kodak Co. - which has led the US digicam market for the previous five quarters in terms of shipments - has dropped to third position in the rankings for the first quarter of this year, says the Wall Street Journal today.
According to the WSJ article, based on a report from market research firm IDC, Kodak was surpassed by both Canon Inc. and and Sony Corp. Canon assumed the lead with a share of 19.3% - up from 18.6%, making it the only one of the three companies to increase its share. Sony's share slipped slightly from 17.5% to 17.1%, and Kodak's share dropped from 19.7% to 14.5%.
The WSJ item speculates that the first quarter is a relatively less important performance indicator than the remainder of the year.
