German company Pentacon, which sells its products under the Praktica brandname, has announced a new digital camera model with an eyecatching (and reasonably attractive) two-tone body - a vivid red and silver combination.
The Praktica DCZ 6.3 is a six megapixel camera with a 2.8x optical zoom lens, as well as a 2.5" LCD with a fairly standard resolution of 115,000 pixels. Likely to help keep price and complexity down, this LCD is the sole methodof framing images, as the Praktica 6.3 forgoes any form of optical viewfinder. As you might expect from a camera aimed at beginners, the DCZ 6.3 keeps things simple by retaining automatic control of most image parameters. Focus is controlledautomatically, as is ISO sensitivity - although you can override this to select an ISO rating from 100 to 400 manually. Exposures are determined with multi-pattern or spot metering, and shutter speeds range from 1/1000 to 8 seconds. White balance is also controlled automatically, with six manual presets also available. The DCZ 6.3 also includes a four mode internal flash, and can capture movies at VGA or lower resolution, at a rate of thirty frames per second. The Praktica 6.3 also has a two / ten second self-timer to let you get into your own pictures. The Praktica DCZ 6.3 stores images on Secure Digital / MultiMedia cards, or 32MB of built-in memory. The camera also offers NTSC / PAL video and USB 1.1 computer connectivity, and compatibility with the PictBridge standard for printing photos on compatible printers without the need for a computer. Power comes from two AA batteries, either rechargeable or disposable. Mac users take note - Praktica lists the camera as compatible with only Windows operating systems (you'll be able to open images on your computer with a card reader as a worst case, but may find the USB connection unsupported, and the software bundle Windows-only). Pricing and availability have not been announced at this time. Original Source Press Release:
PRAKTICA DCZ6.3 - The passion of photography (for Win98SE/ME/2000/XP) If modern colour psychology is right, red stands for passion and the desire for happiness. PRAKTICA is adapting this passion – this fire –to its latest model – the DCZ 6.3. Every single pixel of the six million on the CCD sensor is taking care that even the most filigree detail is stored accurately and brought to life on the 2.5” monitor afterwards. High resolution video clips are no problem either. Whether you record with 320x240 or 640x480 pixels with a constant rate of 30 frames per second – the world around you starts to move. But what happens if you want to print out your pictures? There’s nothing easier like that. The DCZ 6.3 is operating on the PictBridge standard and allows you to print your images directly to a printer without using a computer. Print-outs are only one fingertip away. The focal length rages from 5.8 to 17.4 mm and with exposure times from 2 to 1/1000 seconds and exposure values set up between +/- 2.0, images can be adapted manually as well. The PRAKTICA DCZ 6.3 uses standard alkaline batteries or Ni-MH rechargeable batteries and distinguishes itself by a low energy consumption. The already built-in 32 MB memory can be extended with additional SD cards. Each camera comes with a USB cable, a TV cable, a software CD, a pouch, a wrist strap, a manual and a pair of batteries. |
