Nikon announces Coolpix L6

Nikon Inc. has today announced two additions to its Coolpix L-series of digital cameras, the L designating "Lifestyle".
Of the two cameras, the Nikon Coolpix L6 marks the entry point with a pricetag of just $200. The standout feature of the Nikon L6 has to be its battery life - the company says that this camera can take "the most [photos on a single charge] of any camera in its class" (3x zoom compact, as of June 2006) - an impressive 1,000 shots on a single set of AA Energizer™ lithium batteries, to CIPA testing standards. The Nikon L6 manages to pack quite a few other features into its trim, understated body as well. There's a six megapixel CCD imager, Nikkor-branded 3x optical zoom lens, a 2.5" LCD display, ISO sensitivity to a maximum of 800 equivalent, and 15 beginner-friendly scene modes. There's also Apical Ltd.'s "D-Lighting" exposure correction technology, a face-priority AF function based on tech from Identix, an in-camera red-eye fix function, and Nikon's Best Shot Selector mode (which automatically chooses the sharpest from a series of images). The Nikon L6 saves images on Secure Digital cards, or in 23MB of internal memory. The camera includes USB and video output technology, and comes bundled with Nikon's PictureProject software. Other features include a built-in flash strobe, movie recording at VGA resolution with sound, a macro mode that focuses to 3.9 inches, and seven white balance modes including a custom hold.
