A press release from Komamura, the Japanese distributor for German camera company Rollei, announces a new limited edition variant of the RolleiFlex MiniDigi digital camera model it first announced in 2003.
Initially sold in a 1.3 megapixel variant, a slightly higher-res MiniDigi was launched in July 2004, and it is this unit which the new camera is identical to in all but color. The MiniDigi features the unusual choice of a two megpaixel square CMOS sensor, coupled with a 9mm fixed focus lens. The focusing range is 0.7m to infinity, and shutter speeds are now 1/15 to 1/4000 second. An interpolated three megapixel resolution of 1760 x 1760 pixels is available, if you don't mind sacrificing storage capacity to save having to interpolate images on your PC instead. For framing images there's a 0.9 inch LCD display, and the MiniDigi weighs just 100 grams.
The new limited edition variant takes the original camera, and gives it a new body color - "Italian Red". 1,500 units will be made in this color scheme. Pricing and availability for the Italian Red Komamura Rolleiflex MiniDigi has not been announced at this time.
