PRESS RELEASE: Kodak Selects Kopin's Electronic Viewfinder for Powerful New Zoom Digital Camera
Taunton, Massachusetts, July 17, 2007 - Kopin® Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), the leading provider of microdisplays for mobile consumer electronics, announced today that Eastman Kodak Company, one of the world's leading camera makers, has selected Kopin's CyberEVF® 230K-NF electronic viewfinder (EVF) for its new EASYSHARE Z712 IS digital camera. Kodak is the third tier-one camera manufacturer in 2007 to incorporate Kopin's EVF into an SLR-style digital camera model with a fixed high-zoom lens. The suggested manufacturer's retail price of the camera is US $299.95.
The CyberEVF 230K-NF displays brilliant, natural color images to photographers using the EASYSHARE Z712 IS camera, even in bright sunlight. This ensures that the image seen through the EVF precisely matches the photograph - at any zoom level. Kopin's complete EVF solution provides reduced time to market and production costs for digital camera manufacturers.
The KODAK EASYSHARE Z712 IS combines an impressive 12x SCHNEIDER-KREUZNACH VARIGON optical zoom lens (36-432 mm focal length) with optical image stabilization, delivering superior performance to aspiring photographers. The 7.1 megapixel camera boasts best-in-class click-to-capture performance (0.26 sec) with superb picture quality at an affordable price, making it an attractive alternative to digital SLR cameras.
"We are delighted to partner with Kodak in helping provide its customers with easy-to-use, high-performance digital cameras," said Dr. John C.C. Fan, Kopin president and CEO. "Consumer demand for SLR-style cameras is very strong because they combine affordability and excellent picture quality. We see increasing orders for our EVF products as they provide the best value to digital camera manufacturers by offering the complete solution with superb image quality in a compact package. Kopin's CyberEVF 230K is fast becoming the industry standard among the world's leading digital camera manufacturers for the SLR-style digital cameras."
Kopin's new CyberEVF 230K-NF incorporates a full-color CyberDisplay® 230K with QVGA (320 x 240) resolution, ultra-thin backlight, and optics in a tiny package. The CyberEVF 230K-NF is more compact than the earlier CyberEVF 230K with the focus mechanism. With 15x image magnification and 22-degree field of view, the viewfinder generates large, high-resolution, vivid color images with virtually no distortion or color aberrations. The module's low power consumption (less than 100 mW) addresses a photographer's need for a long battery life.
