An interesting entry posted today on Kodak's amusingly titled "A Thousand Nerds" blog compares CMOS versus CCD image sensors.

The timing is relevant, given Kodak's recent introduction of the EasyShare C513 digital camera - the company's first use of a CMOS image sensor in an EasyShare digicam. Among the more interesting points is a look at some of the technologies Kodak is apparently using in the sensor, such as sharing transistors across multiple pixels to reduce the space occupied by readout circuitry and hence improve the sensor's fill factor (the ratio between the area of the sensor that is sensitive to light, and the area that isn't.)

If you're interested in learning more about CCD vs. CMOS image sensors, hop on over to the Kodak article for more...
