PRESS RELEASE: Sports Photographer Rick Maiman Shares Courtside View of US Open Tennis on 'Look Who's Using Kingston'
Tips for Better Tennis Shots and Images During this Year’s Tournament Available Online
Fountain Valley, CA. – August 27, 2007 – Kingston Technology Company, Inc., the independent world leader in memory products, today announced that freelance photojournalist and sports photographer Rick Maiman will provide a behind-the-scenes look at photographing the 2007 US Open Tennis Championships and offer helpful tips for capturing great moments at any tennis match on the company’s ‘Look Who’s Using Kingston’ microsite.
In addition to his helpful tips, Maiman discusses changing shooting perspectives throughout the tournament and to be mindful of photo opportunities away from the action on the court. Images captured by Maiman at this year’s US Open Championship, held August 27-September 9, will be uploaded to Kingston’s microsite throughout the tournament.
“As a photographer, you need to keep in mind that you can’t produce Pulitzer Prize-winning pictures everyday,” said Maiman referring to the long hours and hard work it takes to capture those one or two memorable images. “You have to value your work and care about it more passionately than anyone else. My work is mission-critical in the sense that others are relying on me to produce great images, which is why I choose my equipment very carefully. Kingston memory cards are unquestionably reliable and you need that because there simply aren’t any do-overs in sports,” added Maiman.
“Rick’s passion for his work is quite obvious when you look at his amazing photographs,” said Jaja Lin, Flash product marketing manager, Kingston. “We’re pleased to know that Rick relies on Kingston to capture and protect his important images. The same level of security that Rick expects can also be enjoyed by consumers whose family outings and vacation photos are equally important to them.”
Currently under contract with Bloomberg News, Maiman views his “big break” as the day he photographed the surrender of Ivan Boesky, the Wall Street investor arrested for insider trading and the model for the hit movie “Wall Street.” His images were used by Sygma, once the world’s largest news photography agency, later acquired by Corbis Corp., when Sygma’s own photographers could not get the shot. Maiman’s photos subsequently earned him an invitation to join the organization. Since then, Maiman has been a freelance photographer for a number of news organizations including the wire services in New York and the New York Daily News. He has been photographing the US Open Tennis Championships in Flushing, NY, for the past 25 years.
