Things are *busy* in the lab these days, with two hot new SLRs each crying for attention. Our sample of the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III arrived yesterday, Lab Guy Luke has shot the initial basic test images with it, which are now posted for your consideration...

Our full production sample of the Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III arrived yesterday, and we have an initial set of test images shot with it available tonight. The level of detail is just stunning, I can't think of another word for it. Shooting with a 70mm lens, when viewed on-screen pixel-for-pixel, the images are considerably larger than life size, and we're seeing details in the Still Life target that we've literally never seen with other cameras. (Would you believe the texture of the threads in the cloth samples?) On the 2x res target, it looks like its resolution is somewhere around 2,400 - 2,500 line widths/picture height, a pretty incredible performance. It's not too shabby at high ISOs either, to the point that we wonder why Canon didn't offer an option to go one more EV higher in than they do. We'll be shooting more over the next couple of days, trying to split lab time between the Canon 1Ds Mark III and the new Nikon D3 that we just received as well. Stay tuned, there's plenty more to come (including a goodly collection of RAW files), but in the meantime, check out what's there on the samples page of our Canon 1Ds Mark III review!
