Longtime readers will be well-familiar with Dave's wife Marti, the subject of countless thousands of test shots on the Imaging Resource website, over the last 10+ years. After a long and fabled career though, Marti is finally retiring from the modeling business! In her place, we'll be using two lifelike mannequins, fitted with human-hair wigs. At the same time, we've also upgraded the Daylight Simulator light source, used for our "sunlit" test shots. The result is our new "INB" and "OUTB" test subjects: Everyone please welcome Lauren and Jody!

Meet "Lauren," our new model for the Indoor test shot. She's not much on personality, but at least seems interested in digital photography. (That's a digital photo primer by O'Reilley she's reading.) | "Jody" is our new model for the simulated sunlight test. She seems sweet, but doesn't say much. At least she looks a little happierthan Lauren does. :-) |
These new test scenes will appear in our camera reviews going forward, but there will also be quite a library of shots captured with previously-reviewed cameras coming available over the next month or so: The lab guys (Luke and Rob) are in the process of shooting the new "INB" and "OUTB" scenes with a large number of cameras we have on hand that haven't been shipped back to the manufacturers yet, plus a few others we've made special requests to get ahold of. Bottom line, most of the current crop of SLRs and a great many digicams will have INB/OUTB shots available in the Comparometer within the next few weeks. (I don't have a firm number, but there should be INB/OUTB shots available for something on the order of 30-40 cameras within the next month or so.) The wide range of comparison shots captured with the new subjects will help readers make valid comparisons between cameras, using the new subjects.
A lot of thought went into the composition of these new test scenes and the lighting employed to capture them. A full discussion is beyond the scope of this short news posting, but you can read full details on the new test subjects and lighting in the following set of articles we've prepared:
So... A hearty thanks to Marti for her years of long-suffering service, and a relieved welcome to the new Ladies of the Lab, Lauren & Jody!
