The Canon SX110IS follows in the footsteps of a very successful long-zoom camera in last year's lineup, the SX100IS.
This year, Canon has updated the design with a 9 megapixel sensor (up from 8 megapixels) and larger 3 inch LCD (up from 2.5 inches). The Canon SX100IS also sports a number of enhancements to the its operation, with more sophisticated face recognition processing, a more sophisticated auto exposure system, motion detection, and a new Easy Mode that reduces picture taking to a "just push the button" experience, despite the camera's myriad options of interest to more advanced users. Also, a 640x480, 30 frames/second movie mode delivers high resolution and very smooth motion capture for movies that will be more than just "video snapshots." The result is the new Canon SX100IS, selling for the same MSRP of $299, despite the upgrades. A lot will obviously depend on how the new model performs in the lab, but if it can live up to its heritage, the Canon SX100IS promises to be another Dave's Pick. Stay tuned for our full review once we get a production sample of the camera, but meanwhile, read our extended Canon SX100IS preview for more details about this exciting new camera.
