Samsung Techwin aims to increase its share of the global digicam market to 10% this year, according to an article in Thailand's English-language business daily "The Nation".
Currently, the subsidiary of Korean conglomerate Samsung Group has a market share of about 9 percent, behind market leaders Canon Inc. (20%) and Sony Corp. (17%). The company expects demand to be flat in some markets including Australia, China, Ukraine, and the United States, but is hoping for an improved outlook in the second half of the year.
Samsung has previously stated an aim to capture the number one spot within the next 2-3 years, and recently announced a plan to spin off its camera business into a separate company.
More details can be found in The Nation's article.
