Turbo Photo, the image editor from Step OK Image Lab, has recently been updated with a new release.
Turbo Photo v6.5 contains an upgraded 4th-generation noise reduction algorithm, said to offer improved quality when used with digital SLRs. (Interestingly, Step OK notes that their new algorithm's performance isn't so good when dealing with noise from point'n'shoot cameras, and promises further work to improve noise reduction in this area too).
The new release also includes two bug fixes. The Save for Web command previously didn't work on some systems, and the Correct Barrel Distortion function could use incorrect parameters. Both issues have now been resolved.
Turbo Photo is available for Windows only, priced at $29 with one year of upgrades included, or $59 including lifetime free upgrades. The program includes some fairly unusual features such as a content-aware resizing tool that attempts to change the aspect ratio of an image while retaining the aspect ratio of the main subjects, selectively discarding areas of the image with little interesting detail.
More details can be found on the Step OK website.
