Canon Inc. has released a firmware update for its EOS 7D digital SLR that fixes several possible issues in previous versions.

The release notes for Canon EOS 7D firmware v1.0.9 describe three changes - one apiece relating to the live view, movie, and shutter release functionality. Autofocus performance of the Canon 7D when in Live View mode is said to have been improved, and a rare problem with abnormal colors during movie recording corrected. Finally, EOS 7D v1.0.9 corrects an issue where the shutter release could fail to operate when the built-in flash or an external Speedlite is in use.

More details, as well as the firmware download and instructions for its application can be found on the Canon website.

Announced a little under two months ago, the Canon 7D is the first in a new model line for the company's EOS series, positioned alongside the existing EOS 5D Mark II and above the EOS 50D. The EOS 7D offers an effective resolution of 18 megapixels from an APS-C sized CMOS image sensor, eight frames-per-second burst shooting, a maximum sensitivity of ISO 6,400 equivalent (expandable to ISO 12,800), and a Full HD movie capture mode. The Canon EOS 7D began shipping in September 2009, with pricing set at about $1,700 body-only. For more details, read our hands-on Canon EOS 7D preview.
