Austin, TX-based Bibble Labs has announced a new beta release of its upcoming RAW file converter, Bibble 5.

The new release, Bibble 5 preview version 3, is available for at least Windows XP, Mac OS X 10.4, or Linux FC6 / Ubuntu 6.06 systems or later. It has several main changes, as compared to the previous preview release. Memory management (and total memory requirements) are said to have been improved, with an attendant improvement in stability, especially for Windows users. The image processing engine has also been updated to fix issues from earlier preview releases, such as straightening causing artifacts in output images, and Lens Correction not working well together with Noise Ninja. The new processing engine also lets Noise Ninja work selectively in Layers & Regions.

Metadata support has also been overhauled, and Bibble 5 can now view and edit IPTC, EXIF, GPS, and select Maker Notes. The number of cameras supported has been greatly increased, with certain Panasonic, Leica, Minolta, and Kodak cameras added for the first time, and additional models added from Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Sony. The additions include the Canon EOS 7D, PowerShot G11 and S90, Nikon D3S and D300s , and Sony Alpha A850.  Printing support and folder watching have also both been added in the new release. Some planned features such as Perfectly Clear, Heal & Clone, and Web Gallery outputs are not currently implemented.

A trial license can be requested on the Bibble website. For users who have already purchased a prior version, the trial is unlimited in nature. New customers will receive a time-limited trial of the preview release. More details can be found on the Bibble website.
