The official Eye-Fi blog features a new post today announcing a rebate for customers purchasing an Eye-Fi card along with the Data Robotics' Drobo, a RAID-based storage array.
Available only from one retailer - New York's J&R - the deal allows customers purchasing a new Drobo device and 4GB Eye-Fi Explore card to receive a $100 mail-in rebate, effectively giving them the Eye-Fi card for free. The Drobo is sold as a storage array enclosure - meaning that no hard drives are included in the purchase price, with the customer instead supplying the drives of their choice. Any combination of drive capacities can be used, and the Drobo will support future SATA drive designs up to four terabytes, with two terabyte drives being the largest currently available. That would currently yield a maximum of eight terabytes of storage in one box, with current 2TB drive pricing somewhere in the region of $180-200 per drive. More details on the bundle rebate can be found on the Eye-Fi blog, as well as on J&R's page detailing the Drobo / Eye-Fi offer.
