perfectionv600.150x91.jpg Epson Posts Revised V600 Driver

The new driver addresses a problem scanning 120mm color negatives.

When Marco L reported a problem scanning 120mm color negatives in the forum of our Epson Perfection V600 scanner review, we wondered how that could have escaped our notice.

The problem was that each half of any scan seemed to have different densities, the right side lighter than the dark. "You can see examples in the Flickr Epson V600 User Group: http://www.flickr.com/groups/1269720@N20/discuss/72157622753647845/," Marco wrote.

We'd asked our contacts at both VueScan and LaserSoft but neither had observed it. Ed Hamrick, author of VueScan, thought it might have to do with blocking the calibration area of the glass bed.

But today, Epson responded to our inquiry with an explanation and a fix:

"This error has to do with the in-box version of the Epson Scan software. As we speak Epson is finalizing a replacement CD to rectify this issue. All units shipping from the end of January moving forward will include the new CD.

"Existing customers can access the latest driver on Perf V600 Drivers and Downloads. The latest driver will fix the glitch. Here is the link:

So why hadn't we seen it? We were using a different version of Epson Scan, from the prelaunch version of the scanner.
